Job Title: Welding Quality Inspector
Location: Gqeberha
Job Summary
The Body Shop Quality Inspector is responsible for inspection and evaluation of the BIW assembly, ensuring adherence to BAIC SA quality standards and industry safety regulations. We are looking for a meticulous and experienced BIW Quality Inspector to join our team. This role involves a keen understanding of welding techniques, materials, tools, and safety measures, and forms a crucial role in BIW assembly quality and ensuring the structural integrity of vehicles through a meticulous inspection process. This position relates to a startup operation.
The candidate will be expected to provide a proven track record of experience with contactable references at the automotive OEM level. Candidates who meet the criteria specified in this job specification will be considered for interview.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Incoming part quality inspection of BIW sub-assembly parts for quality defects. Using checking and welding fixtures as quality assurance tools. Maintain records of inspections and report findings to relevant parties.
· In-process quality inspection at key stages within the manufacturing workflow, either continuously online or periodically offline. Helping to improve quality inspection procedures and processes in the production line.
· Final Inspection is the last quality gate before products ship to customers (paint shop). Perform or partake in periodic comprehensive audits against set BIW quality assessment criteria.
· Reading and interpreting technical drawings or relevant technical information, and written instructions.
· Using visual inspection tools, ultrasonic testing equipment, and other non-destructive testing methods to assess weld quality. Identifying and reporting any welding defects or non-conformities. Recommending corrective actions for identified welding problems.
· Collaborating with the body shop assembly team and other production staff to ensure quality standards are met. Conducting welding qualification tests and providing feedback.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Matric
· AMIC certificate (preferred)
· Minimum 3 years of automotive experience at OEM level in the Body Shop
· A solid understanding of automotive OEM welding techniques.
· Code 08 or higher driver's license with at least 2 years of driving experience
COMPETENCIES:
· Outstanding attention to detail to inspect and validate the quality and integrity of every weld performed.
· Knowledge of safety measures and protocols related to welding operations and the ability to ensure their effective implementation.
· Excellent communication skills to report inspection results, discuss concerns, and coordinate with welding operators and other team members.
· Strong problem-solving skills to identify potential issues and recommend solutions.
· Ability to use various inspection tools and equipment for testing weld quality and strength.
· Attention to detail and Problem solving
· Data analysis and report writing
· Technical knowledge and Presentation skills
