  • Undertake MSc studies investigating polled genetics in smallholder beef cattle to improve animal welfare.

  • Participate in implementation and coordinating of research project.

  • Participate in the successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster presentations and popular articles.

  • Good laboratory practice.

  • Pro-actively provide technical input within the context of the research projects.

  • Assist with planning and preparation of farmer days / engagements.

  • Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research staff.

  • Provide ad hoc research assistance.

  • Utilise and maintain facilities, apparatus and equipment.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, seminars and workshops.


  • BSc (Agric) / BSc Honours in Animal Science, Genetics or a closely related field.

  • Must be able to register for an MSc in Animal Breeding and Genetics at a South African university (attach academic record).

  • Must be a South African citizen.

  • Understanding of basic principles of research.

  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.

  • Ability to work and organize tasks according to schedule, and timely delivery.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.

  • Experience in a molecular genetics laboratory will be an added advantage.

  • A valid drivers license will be an added advantage.
