Duties/Pligte

  • Delivering or teaching assigned futures studies and related modules across SBS postgraduate programmes and executive short courses.

  • Collaborating with staff to create and deliver a transformative learning experience for students in futures studies and generally.

  • Publishing and disseminating research in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, high-impact books, and cases.

  • Promoting SBS's social impact through teaching, research, media and client work.

  • Supervising postgraduate research.

  • Actively contributing to the activities of the Institute for Futures Research.

  • Actively engaging and participating in the activities of Stellenbosch University and Stellenbosch Business School life.


Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

For appointment as a lecturer:

  • An appropriate master's degree awarded by a recognised university.

  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience, especially teaching and learning contributions on modular level, or demonstrated potential to achieve success in teaching.

  • Evidence of early exposure to research activities (including conference participation) or evaluated commitment to research or relevant experience and engagement with public or private organisations, consulting activities, and/or policy that demonstrate management, leadership, expertise and/or thought leadership.

  • Good organisational and personal management skills.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship.


For appointment as a senior lecturer:

  • The same requirements as for appointment as lecturer, plus:

  • Experience in teaching, assessment, and student support at postgraduate level in the relevant subject area.

  • Experience in the design and development of module content.

  • One subsidy-bearing publication unit based upon all credit-worthy academic output.

  • Successfully completed postgraduate research supervision.


Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • The following scarce credentials would enhance the profile of applicants:

  • PhD in the field of futures studies awarded by a recognised university.

  • Leadership or management experience in a futures consulting environment.

  • Experience of having produced consulting reports in the field of futures.

  • International experience or networks in the futures field.

  • Prior work with, or exposure to, the workings of a business school of international repute
